The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra made its official debut yesterday, achieving its annual sales target of 10,000 units within just two hours of its launch. The performance sedan, which boasts over 1,500 horsepower, is priced at 529,900 yuan (approximately 72,800USD) Deliveries are set to begin in April, with a small batch of pre-produced vehicles reaching early customers as soon as March.
During the launch event, Xiaomi’s CEO and founder, Lei Jun, emphasized the company’s mission to make luxury cars accessible to a broader audience. “Our goal is to make premium vehicles affordable,” Jun stated confidently. “Traditional gasoline cars will undoubtedly be outperformed by this car,” he added, praising the SU7 Ultra’s capabilities.
The SU7 Ultra, a high-performance version of the SU7 sedan launched last March, marks Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive industry. The standard SU7, which starts at 215,900 yuan ($29,600 USD), sold 139,847 units in 2024, according to China EV DataTracker. The SU7 Ultra, however, takes performance to a new level, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 1.98 seconds, thanks to its triple electric motor setup delivering a combined 1,526 horsepower. Its top speed reaches an impressive 359 km/h.
The sedan features a 93.7 kWh CATL Qilin 2.0 ternary NMC battery, offering a CLTC range of 620 km and the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes. With dimensions of 5115/1970/1465 mm and a 3000 mm wheelbase, the SU7 Ultra combines power with practicality.
Record-Breaking Orders and Strategic Pricing
Orders for the SU7 Ultra opened at 10 PM China time on February 27. Within 10 minutes, Xiaomi received 6,900 orders, and the 10,000-unit milestone was surpassed in just two hours. Customers are required to place a refundable deposit of 20,000 yuan (2,700USD) secures a stock car for early delivery before the official April rollout.
This strategy mirrors Xiaomi’s approach with the SU7 last year, where a limited “Founders Edition” was delivered ahead of schedule to loyal fans. Lei Jun has dubbed the SU7 Ultra a “dream car,” reflecting its status as a flagship model designed to push boundaries in both performance and affordability.
Xiaomi has also announced that the SU7 Ultra will make its international debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, on March 3. The company teased the event on Weibo, stating, “The dual Ultras will debut overseas on the same stage. Stay tuned!”
This move aligns with Xiaomi’s broader strategy to expand its automotive presence globally. Reports from December 2023 indicated that Xiaomi is accelerating its overseas market testing, with plans to enter Europe before 2030. Lei Jun’s signature approach of “underpromising and overdelivering” is expected to play a key role in this expansion.
In addition, Xiaomi plans to launch its third model, the YU7 SUV, in July 2025. The company aims to sell 300,000 vehicles in 2025, more than doubling its 2024 sales figures. With the SU7 Ultra’s strong start and Xiaomi’s ambitious plans, the tech giant is poised to make a significant impact in the global automotive industry.
